Texas Feral Hog Hunt Pack List

Texas hog hunting is night, brush and heat. Sounders move at dusk and dawn along creek bottoms and field edges. Bright glass, scent control, a red headlamp and a trail camera on the feeder do most of the work, and our thermal pick is in Extras below. Permit first. Then pack for this hunt.

The pack, item by item

We don't link rifles or ARs, ammo, night vision, brush camo, snake boots or packs. Our thermal pick is in Extras below. Check TPWD night-hunting rules for hogs where you hunt. Buddy radios: no link yet.

  1. 1. 10x42 binoculars

    Find sounders at last light.

Texas note: Open fields and sendero edges favor 10x; brush Extra 8x42.

  2. 2. Thermal monocular / scope

Thermal is the biggest advantage after dark.

Texas note: Our thermal pick is in Extras below. Night hunting rules on private land vary, so check TPWD.

  3. 3. Earth-tone camo

    Muted camo for hog country.

Texas note: Check blaze rules on public/refuge hunts.

Mask and gloves on the sit.

Texas note: Thin gloves for glassing; warmer for winter nights.

Waterproof ankle boots for hog country. Ankle support for uneven night ground.

Texas note: Snake boots worth a note in South TX brush.

  6. 6. Rain shell

Quiet shell for night fronts. Quiet shell keeps you hunting.

Texas note: Quiet fabric near feeders.

Insulated layer for cold pig hunts.

Texas note: Pack it on; wear it on the sit.

Texas note: White only when you need it for field dress.
