Texas Exotic Hunt Pack List

Texas exotics mean axis, aoudad and blackbuck across open ranch country and canyon slopes. Glass far, judge horns, then range a longer shot. Permit first. Then pack for this hunt.

Legal

Texas legal box. Exotic rules, guided package terms and refuge draw rules differ by hunt. Guided outfitters often supply most of the kit. Check current TPWD regulations and your hunt's rules before you go.

The pack, item by item

  1. 1. Binoculars

Exotics are wary and often feed in open country. 10x42 finds herds across pastures and canyon walls and helps you pick the right animal.

  2. 2. Laser rangefinder

Open-country and canyon shots are hard to judge. Range before you settle in.

  3. 3. Headlamp

Pre-dawn walk-ins and recovery after the shot.

  4. 4. Sunglasses (optional)

Bright Hill Country and desert glare between glassing sessions.

  5. 5. Spotting scope and tripod (optional)

Judge horns on far slopes before a long stalk, especially for aoudad.
