Hunting Rangefinders for Open Country
Compare ranging modes, handling and system compatibility before maximum-distance claims.

Range With Confidence
Buy for the targets and terrain you hunt, not the largest reflective-range claim. Small animals, dark surfaces, rain, glare and hand movement can make ranging harder. Practice finding a dependable reading at the distances you are willing and able to shoot.
For a steep shot, learn what the unit’s angle-compensated mode displays. For a ballistic solution, check exactly which inputs, app connections and compatible devices are required. A basic rangefinder and a connected ballistic system are not the same purchase.

Rangefinders Compared
Check the exact generation and model. A reflective-target maximum is not a promise of reliable animal ranging at that distance.

Vortex Razor HD 4000
The higher-reaching option for open country. The 4,000-yard maximum is for reflective targets, not deer.
$399.49

Leupold RX-1400i TBR/W Gen 2
A light rangefinder with angle-compensated TBR/W and Flightpath for checking a bow’s trajectory path.
$199.99

Vortex Crossfire HD 1400
A compact lower-cost rangefinder with angle compensation. Its advertised maximum range is not an animal-range guarantee.
$179.49

SIG KILO5K 7x25 rangefinder
A 7x25 laser rangefinder with BDX connectivity. Check app compatibility and ballistic-feature limits.
$699.99
Rangefinder Pouches
Check device dimensions, lid clearance, tether routing and attachment to your binocular harness. The linked Marsupial is the large size; FHF offers different size choices.

ALPS OutdoorZ Extreme Vital X
A magnetic-lid rangefinder pouch that attaches to compatible bino harnesses and packs.
$41.99

FHF Gear M1 rangefinder pouch
A quiet magnetic pouch for smaller rangefinders. Match the pouch size to your device.
$55.00

Marsupial rangefinder pouch
A fleece-lined magnetic rangefinder pouch. The linked large size suits larger devices.
$45.00
Field Checks
- Set units and the ranging mode before the hunt, not when an animal appears.
- Range several known features around a stand or glassing position.
- Brace the unit when possible and repeat an unexpected reading.
- Learn the display in bright light and at first or last light.
- Check your battery and carry the appropriate spare.
Know your shooting limits independently of the unit’s maximum range. Confirm any ballistic system at the range with your actual rifle, ammunition and conditions. For your wider glassing setup, see the hunting optics guide.
