Sitka Stratus 2.0 vs Fanatic: Which Stand Jacket?

We may earn from gear links on this page. Odds never change because of it. How we earn

Overview

Most whitetail hunters who buy Sitka for the stand end up choosing between these two jackets. Both block wind with WINDSTOPPER and both have a harness port. Both come in Optifade Elevated II and Cover. Past that they do different jobs. The Stratus Jacket 2.0 is the jacket you wear from October into the rut and then layer under when it gets cold. The Fanatic is warm on its own and built for sits in single-digit temperatures.

The 2.0 update to the Stratus is in the pockets. It adds a dedicated rangefinder pocket and a grunt tube holder with a mesh bottom so the call sounds normal. The removable hood with hearing ports stays.

Quick verdict

Pick the Stratus 2.0 if you hunt from the early season into the rut, sit in temperatures from the 30s to the 50s, or already own a warm puffy to wear under it. It is also the one to buy if you need a tall size.
Pick the Fanatic if your strongest days are in late-season cold, you hunt with a bow and want a handmuff built in, and you would rather pack one warm jacket than a layered setup.
Both make sense if you hunt from September into January. Many serious stand hunters own both.

Who each one is for

Stratus 2.0: the season-long bowhunter

You hunt from October through the rut, sit 3–5 hours, and like adjusting layers. The pockets for calls and a rangefinder fit how you hunt.

Stratus 2.0: tall hunters

Sitka sells the Stratus 2.0 in MT, LT and XLT. The Fanatic page lists only standard sizes.

Fanatic: the late-season holdout

You hunt Midwest December food plots, sit until dark, and want the handmuff on the jacket so your hands stay ready to draw.

Fanatic: the one-jacket hunter

You want one heavy piece that handles the cold without building a layering system under a shell.

Questions hunters ask

Is the Stratus 2.0 warm enough for late season?

Not by itself. It has a light fleece liner. In late season, wear an insulated mid-layer under it or move up to the Fanatic.

Is the Fanatic too hot for the walk in?

It can be. Unzip it or carry it, then put it on at the tree. The harness port means you can do that without unclipping.

Do both jackets work with a tree-stand harness?

Yes. Both have Sitka's Constant-Connect harness port, so you can stay tethered while you add or take off the jacket.

Elevated II or Cover?

Sitka describes Elevated II as for sparse canopy (stands with the trees mostly bare) and Cover as for dense green vegetation. Pick based on the woods you hunt in your peak weeks.

Is the Stratus 2.0 a new jacket?

It is an update to a long-running Sitka jacket. The 2.0 version mainly changes the pockets (grunt tube and rangefinder). Both jackets are current whitetail pieces on sitkagear.com.
