How we picked

  • Reviews first. Every pick is chosen on review reputation: star ratings and review counts on the maker’s site. We did not field-test them.
  • Value means value. The Best value pick is a low-cost buy that matters on every hunt, not cheap filler.
  • Dated prices. Prices come from maker pages with the date we checked. Prices change, so confirm before you buy.
  • No paid placements. Every link goes straight to the maker.

Hunt the heat

Spring turkey and many hog hunts fall in warm weather. Hunt the first and last hours of light, rest in the shade at midday, and drink before you are thirsty. Tell someone where you parked and when you plan to check out.

Frequently asked questions

How did you pick these?

On review reputation: star ratings and review counts on each maker's own site, checked Oct 25, 2026. We did not field-test these products, and brands cannot buy a spot.

What do I bring for a WMA day hunt versus a multi-day hunt?

For a day hunt, pack your permit, license, water, a headlamp, binoculars, a knife and a cooler with ice. For a multi-day hunt, add camp gear for the designated campsite, extra water and ice, spare batteries and a first aid kit. Your permit and the area rules list check-in and check-out times.

What is an e-postcard hunt?

An e-postcard hunt is a Texas Parks and Wildlife drawing where you enter online with no application fee, and selected hunters get a permit for a hunt on public land, such as feral hog, turkey or small game. See the TPWD Public Hunt Drawing System for details.

When is the last Texas drawn hunt deadline this season?

Nov 1, 2026 for the last categories, including spring turkey and youth feral hog, per our TPWD catalog copy. Check the deadlines page and TPWD before you apply.

Do I need special gear for hogs?

Mostly a good light, a sharp knife and plenty of ice. Hogs carry disease, so wear gloves when you field dress them and cook the meat well.
